Hello? Anyone still in here?

I'm moving to Mankato soon for grad school. I am looking for cool people to meet AND I also need a place to live. I party-hard . . . if you count playing board games, having dinner parties, and movie nights as hard partying. I'm a biologist going back to school for education.

If you know of anything that might fit the bill, let me know!

Mankato Area... [06 Sep 2008|09:53pm]

I was going to do this earlier today but forgot.

We recently bought a new TV and need to get rid of the old one and the entertainment center. It's a 32" Samsung HDTV and entertainment center. We're asking for about $350-400 but make a good offer and my husband may consider. I want it out of my livingroom.

You would need to pick up and take it away. More info below; it's posted on craigslist.

In case you know someone that might be interested. We really want to get rid of it.

Restaurants closing!!! What's next? [11 Jul 2008|02:13pm]

Timberlodge in Mankato is closed, and rumors are two Starbucks in Mankato (both built within the last year, right?) are probably next? The Hunan Garden up in University Square appears to have closed a few weeks ago?

Have we finally reached restaurant saturation in Mankato?

From Dr. Seuss to Pornography [24 Oct 2007|09:15pm]

This is a community presentation by Cordelia Anders, M.A.  She will be sharing information with parents, grandparents, educators, and all concerned community members about the impact of a “hyper sexualized” culture on our children/teens and steps we can take to counter harmful trends and promote healthy youth. Presented in Mankato on Thursday, October 25, 6:30-8:00p.m., South Central College - Conference Center Auditorium. For more information contact the Council for Health Action and Promotion: 507-389-4618.

I went to this presentation tonight at the New Ulm Public Library. It was very informational, stunning, eye opening, and educational. I encourage anyone in any field to attend. IT'S FREE.

Traveling Vietnam Wall [17 Jun 2006|05:02pm]

If you happen to be in the Mankato area and are looking for something educational and moving to do, the "American Veterans Traveling Tribute" is set up near the big white tent in front of Herbergers at the River Hills Mall. This 80% scale (380 feet long) replica of the Washington Vietnam Memorial Wall is filled with the names of those who died in Vietnam. There are also computer databases available to help you find a specific person on the wall, if you know someone who died in that war. The memorial is also meant to honor those soldiers who are currently in harms way and to remind everyone of their sacrifices.

Debut Local Show! [17 May 2006|07:08am]

    [ mood | groggy ]

Abatwaar will be playing at the What's Up! Lounge on June 2nd. The show starts at 6pm and I think we're the first band on so be there on time! It's an all ages show and there is a $7 cover charge to get in.

This is be our first time playing in Mankato, and we'll be paired up with a couple of punk bands (Brainchild, Hyperbole) and a post-hardcore band (The Bank Robbers), so we're not sure how the rest the show will turn out. The line up is odd considering our self-styled "genre". We call ourselves "Groove Death Metal," for lack of a better description, but it tends to fit. I finally got our community up and running although there's not much in it - abatwaar.

Anyhow, if you make it out there, enjoy the show!

    Metal Frith!

Our First Local Show [30 Apr 2006|08:02am]

    [ mood | ecstatic ]

Abatwaar will be playing the What's Up Lounge on Friday, June 2nd. We're opening for The Bank Robbers and will be playing with Brainchild. This will be our first local show, so I'm pretty excited about it!

It's an all ages show and starts at 6pm. For more information go here.

Our very unfinished community is abatwaar. It's really not much to see at the time, but I'll remedy that soon enough.

See ya'll there if you go! \m/

Missing student from SCSU [08 Oct 2005|03:23pm]

EDIT: Nevermind, she has been found, dead unfortunately.

    From the KARE-11 website:

Sartell police are asking for the public's help in locating a woman who has been missing since Monday, when she left her parents' home after an extended argument.

Andrea Alejandra Arriagada, 18, left her parents' Sartell home at about 5:45 a.m. Monday and said she was headed to St. Cloud State University, where she is a student and member of the biathlon club team.

She never arrived there, and her parents reported her missing at about 11:20 a.m. Monday, said Deputy Police Chief Dale Struffert.

The family's 1999 green, four-door Toyota Corolla is missing, Struffert said, along with a .22-caliber rifle. The license plate on the Corolla is Minnesota plate DSZ 142, Struffert said.

It's unknown whether anyone was or is with Arriagada, he said. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the Sartell Police Department at 251-8186.

The link above includes a picture of her. Other reports state that she has friends at other MnSCU institutions that she may have contacted (which is why I posted this here).

    [23 Apr 2005|05:44am]

Alright, I had this brilliant Idea last year, and the year before but always got bad reviews from people i knew in real life - saying that it was a stupid and pointless Idea, so I never let the project go ahead with my plans for world domination education. Here's the deal, read it if you'd like to be a part of Lyrical Rage - vocal war

All the info is there, this is for real.

Will be x-posted so sorry if you see this more then once.

    Grr....I can't find this information! [29 Mar 2005|11:18pm]

Does anyone know what the website is for the Lincoln Community Center? There is community education info that I need there. Why don't I call the LCC, you ask? I did, and the people answering the phones had no idea what I was talking about. I figured, I'd take a shot in the dark over here.
